SYRACUSE — Syracuse-Wawasee Trail Committee addressed several projects at its Monday, June 18, meeting.

An update on the new brochures were discussed. Two pictures were shown for the cover of the brochure, and the committee will need about 1,000 copies. Angie Racolta, a committee member, is spearheading the project for the brochures that will state “Life is Better on the Trail” on the cover.

A proposal from Flip Cause, a community engagement and fundraiser tool, was discussed. The cost is $100 per month, but the first two months are free. There is no contract. Currently, the commitee is paying $71 per month for website hosting through a local business.

“This would replace that,” said Megan McClellan, trail’s executive director, of the new tool.

Commitee members agreed that more information is needed before agreeing to the proposal.

In maintenance issues, a sign for the Conklin Bay project will need to be hung up. The sign, a thermometer tracking the funds raised so far, will be hung in a visible site near the project. Also, three mileage markers along the Syracuse Lake trail need to be moved. McClellan will see if the Eagle Scout, who did the project originally, can move the signs.

Volunteer of the Month is Chad Jonsson. He was chosen for helping with Tour Des Lakes, attending the planning meetings for the event and other duties.

The Couch to 5K is “really successful this year,” said McClellan. The program started with 22 people and now has nine people training for the 5K. Free entry into the Flotilla 5K is included in the program cost.

Tails and Trails may be moved to the fall. The dog walk on the trails is tentatively set for Oct. 27. Mathew Bochard, a committee member, is leading the event.

Dr. Tom Edington gave the treasurer’s report. There was $101,521.44 in donations and $4,590.72 in expenses in May. Donations include an anonymous $100,000 donation for the Conklin Bay project.

The committee agreed to purchase a new laptop for McClellan, up to $1,000.

Upcoming events were discussed. Tour des Lakes is Saturday, July 14. The bike event is from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting at the Syracuse Community Center. So far, 174 have registered for the ride and $400 more in sponsorships has been raised.

“Last year, we had 165 registered at this time,” said McClellan.

The next Tour des Lakes meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the old Syracuse Elementary School.

The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday, July 16.
