SYRACUSE — Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals approved several variances at its meeting Thursday, Nov. 15.
Randal and Jo Ellen Baskerville’s variance was approved. They want to allow a variance to separate two platted lots and allow a new home to be constructed on each lot at 20 feet from the water’s edge and 20 feet from the road’s right of way, and 5 feet from both side lines.
The property is located at 818 S. Lakeside Drive.
The petition was approved at 20 feet from the right of way and 26 and 1/2 feet from the water’s edge, so it’s the average of the two homes on either side of the property.
Tracy Beer’s first petition for a variance, continued from last month’s meeting, was dropped due to survey issues. Beer wanted to allow the construction of a second story at 2.4 feet from the east property line, 2.7 feet from the west property line and to allow a residence addition at 2.7 feet from the west property line.
The property is located at 512 E. Medusa St.
Beer’s second petition for a variance was approved, however. The conditions are that on the east side of the property, any new construction must be 5.6 feet from the closest point of the new property line. Beer is doing a major remodeling project of the house.
On the southwest corner of the property, an addition on the house must be 5 feet from the property line. The second story addition was granted at 2.3 feet with the condition the existing foundation is used.
Nancy Buckner’s petition for a variance was approved as presented. She wants to allow a new property line to remain as created, resulting in a setback of 5.8 feet to the residence and a 6.5 feet setback from the property line. The property is located at 514 E. Medusa St.
Leticia Howell’s petition for an exception was continued until December’s meeting. She wants to allow a home occupation, a day care, during the daytime for up to 12 children. The property is located at 700 S. Syracuse-Webster Road.
The case was continued in order to get more information about the parking and driveway situation. There was some concern with visibility issues and traffic.
The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
