WARSAW — Lakeland Art Association has moved to a new location and has more than doubled its size. LAA hosted the grand opening of its relocated art gallery Saturday, Feb. 6. The new art gallery is now located at 302 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw.
LAA moved from Pierceton back to Warsaw for two reasons. One, the gallery needed to move and second, people in the art world wanted LAA to move back to the Lake City. The new location has allowed LAA to more than double its space.
“We have a lot of opportunity,” said Darla McCammon, a former LAA board member and its marketing coordinator.
“We have three rooms for exhibits, a room for a gift shop and classroom space,” added Melodie Koher, LAA board president.
The new location is also more convenient being centrally located in Warsaw. The Warsaw art gallery allows more room for many kinds of art and the upstairs offers more room for growth.
The gallery features a variety of art. Sculptures, 3D art, and a variety of mediums, such as acrylics, watercolor, and even textiles, can be found at LAA’s new gallery.
“We are very open to artists that want to do something different,” said McCammon.
The gallery also features a gift shop in one room with handmade, one-of-a-kind jewelry and affordable gifts or art for sale. “The jewelry is really affordable,” said McCammon.
LAA will offer classes for adults and children. Monthly lunch and learn sessions will start in April, added Koher.
Artwork displayed, in various genres, is mostly from contemporary, local artists. LAA has about 60 members. One of these artists includes Robert Hudson, who does a variety of art and is best known for his western portrayals and outdoor murals, such as one in Etna Green. Another artist includes Elizabeth Wamsley, a Syracuse artist known for her 3D clay art. Susan King, “a fabulous watercolor artist,” said McCammon, has work also on display at LAA. Steven Creighton, a Rembrandt style artist known for his oil paintings, also has his work on display at LAA. Terry Armstrong, a LAA member, is known for his watercolor art and has several of his pieces in the gallery.
“We have a lot of different kinds of art. We have a nice variety of artists,” said McCammon.
McCammon added, “We are forming a nucleus here. One of our goals is to have a full-fledged museum and an art gallery. They are both totally different.”
Some of the art on display has been gifted to LAA. Mary Alice Estep’s artwork was gifted by the Stouder family. The David Miller family donated three pieces of art by Jaques de Du-Glass. Other gifted art on display is from artists Alle Gerard, Fred Olds and Theodore Goods.
Artwork is for sale, too, said McCammon, and there is ample parking.
“We are excited. It is a very nice space, and we are very excited to be back in Warsaw,” said Koher.
“We want people to feel welcome here,” added McCammon.
Admission to the gallery is always free. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday. For more information, visit www.lakelandartassociation.org or www.facebook.com/Lakeland-Art-Association, or call (574) 269-1101.
