WARSAW — Emily Moore is more than just a home health aide at Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice Inc. While she has been an aide for the past 31 years, she also has served her community in other ways.
Moore grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. Moore’s mother died when she was 10 years old. As the middle child, she had to learn to care for herself. Moore moved to Warsaw in 1977.
Moore became a home health aide because she likes helping people. Over the years, she has formed bonds with many of her long-time clients.
She has been with one of the agency’s patients for almost 29 years. While working with this patient, Moore has gone beyond just being an aide. The patient, named Pam, was a young mom when she found out she had multiple sclerosis. Moore’s sister also had multiple sclerosis. Moore’s son, husband and the couple’s church have helped Pam over the years. Her family and about 25 other people even helped do repairs on the woman’s house. Is is just one example of Moore’s compassionate heart, said one of her co-workers.
“Emily doesn’t see how special she is,” said Kim Nance, KHCH business development manager. “She goes beyond just her job responsibility to get the services and resources for her patients and their families. She is very humble. Her patients love her. She is dearly loved by her patients and their families.”
Moore said what she enjoys most about her job is “meeting the people and hearing their stories.” Moore added, “I don’t feel like it’s a job half the time. If you like your job 90 percent of the time, it’s not a job.”
She helps with many other needs in the community. Moore not only has been a home health care aide, but she is also active in her church, Walnut Creek Methodist Church in Warsaw. Moore joined the church in 1986. She serves at the church “mostly behind the scenes,” she said, and has served on several of the church’s committees.
A Warsaw resident, Moore is married to husband, Terry, and the couple have two children and two grandchildren, Riley, 8, and Danica, 6. In her spare time, “I spend the weekends with my grandchildren,” she said.
